There is so much to do where do I begin?
Like any good story, it begins with an idea. Whether you can sound like
Shakespeare or Dr. Seuss, they are both credible published authors. You can be
as well, but do not compare yourself to the greats you studied in school. You
are different and have had your own thoughts, experiences, and ideas.
Don't compare your stories to Charles Dickens or even the top sellers
such as Stephanie Meyers. There are genres and trends that will influence the market as
to what may influence what sales. First, write out your story, however it works
for you. My style is to just get it down on paper so that I do not lose my
ideas and then I go back and edit. Some people edit as they go, and some people
will rewrite as they change their ideas and characters. Whatever idea or type
of book you are doing just find the style and time that work for you and Write!
Write! Write!
I have written for years but I am too scared to tell anyone. What do I do?
Find a friend, spouse, even a work friend, and share your idea. Just one
person that you may trust enough to share your idea about and let them see. You
will be amazed at the response most people give. Many people have a lot
of respect for people who can write. There is also no bigger thrill than
discussing the work with someone else about a world and characters that you
have created!
Does my book have to be published by a professional company? Don't I need an
agent to represent me?
No, self-publishing is off to a new and very profitable start. Research and
look around on the internet at all the top selling books. The New York Best
Times Sellers list is no longer the only top rated. They also go by the Kindle
Top Selling List as well. E-publishing is a huge way to break into publishing
your book without expense to yourself. There are also many authors who have had
their books picked up after they have self published, because they did so
well on kindle.
No, you do not need an agent to represent you. You are the best person to
represent yourself and to research as much as you can.
We'll keep posting and answering as many questions as we can and as you
submit them. Keep a watch as we go through and post our adventures with our
books. Happy writing and good luck!
